How Many Accessible Parking Spaces Do You Need?
The number of accessible parking spaces you need in accordance with the ADA is dependent on the number of parking spaces you have.
- Less than 100 spots: You need one accessible space for every 25 spots.
- 100-200: You add 1 accessible spot for every 50.
- 200-500: You add one for every 100 spots.
- 500-1,000: You will need to make sure accessible parking spots make up 2% of the total number of spots.
- Over 1,000: You need 20 plus 1 for every 100 spots over 1,000.
It’s also important to note that at least 1 of every 6 accessible spaces but be van-accessible.
How Big Are Accessible Parking Spaces?
Accessible parking spaces are larger in comparison to other parking spaces. Typically, a parking spot is 9×18 feet. Car-accessible parking spots require an access aisle that is at least 5 feet wide in addition to the 9 feet that other parking spots have. They also must be indicated with an accessible parking sign.
